1942 | P36 | HMS P36 was lying alongside a jetty at Silema creek in Malta When the Luftwaffe attacked the harbour. A large bomb landed sufficiently near the submarine to hole her and she began to sink. Despite desperate efforts to save her she rolled over and sank. |
1942 | Truant (N68) | HMS Truant sinks two Japanese merchant cargo ships in Malacca Strait, 60 miles off the coast of Sumatra |
1942 | Urge (N17) | While on patrol north of Sicily, the 5,070 ton Italian Cruiser GIOVANNI DELLA BANDA NERE and two escorting Destroyers was attacked with a salvo of four torpedoes. Two hits were claimed and the Cruiser was sunk in position 38`37'N 15`22'E. |
1942 | Pandora (N42) | HMS Pandora bombed & sunk at Malta HMS Pandora arrived at Malta loaded with stores on 31st March 1942. Having discharged her oil she was moved to Hamilton Wharf at dawn the following day. A bombing raid began as she was being further unloaded and rather than delay her progress it was decided to continue despite the raid. Between 1500 and 1600 on the afternoon of 1st April Pandora received two direct hits from bombs and sank. |
1942 | O23 (Dutch) | O23 encounters a submarine southwest of Sardinia, Italy. Before an attack could be started the other submarine submerged. O23 did the same and for an hour she hunted the other submarine but no contact could be made. The other submarine was the Italian Aradam that dived immediately upon seeing another submarine as it was not certain if it was a friendly or an enemy submarine |
