1766First submarine attackDuring the Revolutionary War, the American submersible craft Turtle attempts to attach a time bomb to the hull of British Admiral Richard Howe's flagship Eagle in New York Harbor. It was the first use of a submarine in warfare.
1838Grace DarlingGrace Darling, the daughter of a lighthouse keeper, made her famous rescue of the crew of the Forfarshire, which was shipwrecked, near the Farne Islands off the Northumberland coast
