Porpoise (S01)

Built By: Vickers (Barrow)
Build Group: P1
Fate: Paid off June 1982, placed on disposal list 1983.
Towed to Cammell Lairds for conversion as a target, painted bright orange for weapons testing during 1985 and was sunk the same year on October 20th.

Porpoise was eventually decommissioned in 1982 and was sunk as a target in 1985 in trials for the Spearfish torpedo, for which purpose she was painted bright red.

She had also been used as a target while still serving with the Navy. In 1979 the casing, ballast tanks and vents were reinforced so that unarmed torpedoes could be fired at the submarine without the risk of sinking her.
