HMS. Alecto was completed to navy order as a depot ship.

Alecto commissioned at Sheerness and served through out WW1 with submarines at Yarmouth.

Served as a Submarine Depot Ship at Portsmouth in 1939 and 1940.

Transferred to boom defence duties in 1940.
