Fate: Paid off Feb 1949 and scrapped at Faslane, Scotland in Nov 1952.

The passenger ship Montcalm of the Canadian Pacific Steamships Ltd, Montreal was requisitioned by the Admiralty and converted to an armed merchant cruiser HMS Wolfe (F37).

In November 1941 returned and used as troopship by the Ministry of War Transport.

In January 1942 sold to the Admiralty for conversion to a submarine depot ship

Served as depot ship for the 3rd submarine flotilla until transferred to the Eastern Fleet in 1944

Able Seaman Ernest Frank Hay

Able Seaman Ernest Frank Hay P/JX 426018, a member of the crew of the Submarine Depot Ship HMS Wolfe died on 15th May 1944. He is understood to have been accidentally drowned in the River Tyne.

Eighteen-year-old Ernest Hay was the son of Charles Edward and Lily Hay of Holmer Green, Little Missenden, Buckinghamshire. He is buried in the Holmer Green Christ Church Cemetery.

Able Seaman Kenneth Norman Blakey

Able Seaman Kenneth Norman Blakey P/JX 387738 was at home on leave on on 28th March 1944 when he died from accidental coal gas poisoning overnight in the 'Writing and Rest Room' at the 'Toc H' Headquarters in Spalding.

Two other men (assumed to be friends but non-submariners) are also reported to have died in the accident and a verdict of misadventure was reported at the inquest.

Nineteen year old Kenneth Blakey from Holbeach, Lincolnshire was the son of George Edward and Louie Blakey, of Algarkirk and Earl’s Marsh Farm, Forsdyke. Kenneth Blakey is buried in the All Saints Churchyard, Forsdyke in a plot south of the Church
