1941	O24 (Dutch)	Attacked the Italian tanker Saturno about 5 nautical miles West of Fiumicino, Italy. No hits were obtained and O24 was briefly depth charged following the attack.
1942	Thrasher (N37)	HMS Thrasher sinks a sailing vessel with gunfire in the Aegean Sea about 10 nautical miles south-west of Cape Pinnes, Athos peninsula, Greece.
1942	Unruffled (P46)	HMS Unruffled torpedoes and sinks the Italian merchant Loreto (130 POW's aboard were lost) 4 nautical miles off Cape Gallo, Sicily, Italy.
1942	Talent (P322)	Laid Down
1944	Sturdy (P248)	HMS Sturdy sinks the Japanese Kosei Maru and Hansei Maru off Towari, Celebes, Netherlands East Indies.
1956	Anchorite (P422)	Anchorite went aground in Rothesay Bay and was stuck for 2 days before being pulled free.

Titanic. The name of this famous ship (or infamous, depending on the way you look at history) reverberates throughout the century since she sank in 1912. Her sinking was the instigator of many changes, developments and innovations not least the genesis of the US Coast Guard and SOLAS. Among the innovations of how to detect obstructions at sea, like an iceberg, was one conceived by a Canadian born radio engineer, Reginald Fessenden working as a consultant to the Submarine Signal Company to enhance their system of underwater bells for shore-based stations, buoys, and light ships and for sound detection on ships.
