Keel Layed by George Younger, Secretary of State for Defence Rolled out and Named by Lady Newman, wife of Vice Admiral Sir Roy Newman, flag Officer Plymouth
Around 2005 HMS Victorious underwent a major overhaul at Devonport, during which her reactor was refitted with a new core, Core H, which will power her through the rest of her service life without the need to refuel.
Victorious, like her three sisters, has two captains and two crews, known as Port and Starboard. While one is manning the boat on patrol, the other can squeeze in some training and leave before they take their turn out at sea.
