1929 H 47 HMS L12 was at sea with an Officer Training Class; at the same time H47 was on independent exercises in the Irish Sea. At 0800 both submarines were off the Pembrokeshire coast with L12 ahead of H47. L12 suddenly altered course to starboard. H47 at once went full astern and to collision stations. The two submarines crashed together with L21 bow penetrating about 2 feet. In only 15 seconds H47 began to sink. L12 also began to take in water but her crew managed to control the flood.

L12 suddenly altered course to starboard. H47 at once went full astern and to collision stations. The two submarines crashed together with L21 bow penetrating about 2 feet. In only 15 seconds H47 began to sink.

L12 also began to take in water but her crew managed to control the flood.

Petty Officer Hicks was on the bridge of H47 at the time of the collision and had a remarkable escape. He had jumped from the bridge onto the bows of L12 and grabbed hold of her forward jumping wire. He was taken down with L12 but managed to cling to the wire until she returned to the surface.
1940 Salmon (N 65) HMS Salmon departed her base to patrol off Skudesnes on the SW coast of Norway. She was sent signals on 9th, 11th and 12th July, the final one ordering a return to base. None of these signals were acknowledged.

Later it became known that one of the signals routed her across a minefield, which at the time was unknown to the Admiralty. There is also a possibility that she was attacked by aircraft, but mining is the most likely.
1940 Unbeaten (N 93) Launched
1941 Sealion (N 72) HMS Sealion sinks the French fishing vessel St Pierre d'Alcantara with gunfire off Ushant.
1941 Torbay (N 79) HMS Torbay sinks the German sailing vessels L V, L XII and L VI, with gunfire and scuttling charges about 10 nautical miles north of Antikythera, Greece and damages the Italian oiler Strombo in the Zea Channel.
