| 1942 | Thorn (N 11) | Lost. On the 7th August 1942 HMS Thorn encountered the Italian torpedo boat Pegaso, escorting the steamer Istria from Benghazi, 30 miles south west of Gaudhos Island, off southern Crete. At 1255 an escorting aircraft was seen to machine-gun the seas surface and Pegaso moved in to investigate. Just four minutes after the aircraft's attack the Pegaso picked-up a contact and carried out seven attacks after which contact was lost. HMS Thorn failed to return from the patrol and is believed to have been lost in this attack. |
| 1942 | Turbulent (N 98) | HMS Turbulent torpedoes and sinks the wreck of the Italian destroyer Strale off Cape Bon. |
| 1943 | Parthian (N 75) | Mined & sunk in Mediterranean In July HMS Parthian sailed from Malta for a patrol in the southern Adriatic. On the 26th she was ordered to patrol off Capo Otranto. This order was cancelled on the 28th when a new patrol area was given. The submarine was signalled on 6th August to leave the patrol. This signal was not acknowledged and not further contact was made with the submarine. Parthian was due to arrive at Beirut on 11th August, her failure to do so was probably caused by a mine on or around 6th August. |
| 1943 | Shakespeare (P 221) | While on patrol north-west of Ustica, HMS Shakespeare fires three torpedoes at what is identified as an Italian light cruiser. All torpedoes missed their target. |
| 2013 | Talent (S 92) | HMS Talent returned home to Plymouth after a three months deployment. During her deployment HMS Talent engaged in defence diplomacy, undertook a number of trials and exercised with US and French ships and stopped in Gibraltar. Shortly after sailing from HM Naval Base, Devonport, HMS Talent made her first stop in Gibraltar allowing the territory’s Chief Minister, The Hon. Fabian Picardo and the Deputy Chief Minister, The Hon. Dr Joseph Garcia to tour the submarine. The visit was significant to HMS Talent’s commanding officer, Commander John Aitken, who last stepped foot on the 'Rock' five years earlier as the executive officer of the submarine HMS Superb. |
