On This Day - September 8

1915 E 2 (I 82) Submarine E2 under Lieutenant Commander David de B Stocks was operating in the Sea of Marmora when Lieutenant Lyon went missing. He was landed from E2 in an attempt to blow up a railway bridge near San Stephano (a similar feat to that performed previously by Lieutenant D'Oyly-Hughes of E11). Lieutenant Lyon was never seen again.

2022 Queen Elizabeth II Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died at 15:10 BST at Balmoral Castle at the age of 96.
