Hebe converted to a depot ship in 1909.
She served with the Sixth Submarine Flotilla at the start of the war, following them to the Tyne from 1914 to 1916. She worked with the First Submarine Flotilla at Leith in 1916-17, and with the Third Submarine Flotilla in 1917-18

The British Fleet at the moment when war was declared possessed 72 submarine torpedo-boats built and 22 building. Some of these were, however, stationed at the oversea naval bases.

Fate: HMS Regent is assumed to have been lost in the Adriatic Sea off Bari between the 18th and 25th April 1943. The submarine is thought to have strayed into a minefield. The entire crew of sixty-three Officers and Ratings were lost. The first of four bodies washed up near Brindisi on 1st May 1943 and was the body of an ERA dressed in overalls and wearing a DSEA escape kit. Another was washed up at Santa Andrea di Missipezza on 15th May 1943 also wearing a DSEA kit. On 16th May either an Officer or a Petty Officer was washed up at Torre Santo Stefano, north of Otranto and, on the same day, another was washed up at Castro Marina. |

Along with the recipes, this book aims to preserve a segment of British history, Royal Navy social history, which is fading all too quickly and would otherwise be lost in the grey sea-mists of oblivion.
