The Life and Service of Captain Guy D'Oyly-Hughes, DSO & Bar, DSC. He was a man of strong convictions and decisive action, shaped by years of service in the silent service, where the captain's judgement was often the only safeguard against unseen danger. He gave his life in the service he had joined as a boy, and he went down with his ship.
During World War II, the USS Haynes, an American destroyer escort discovers a German U-boat in the South Atlantic. A deadly duel between the two ships ensues, and Captain Murrell must draw upon all his experience to defeat the equally experienced German commander.
