Commodore David Charles Langbridge Crossed the Bar on the 28th November 2025 aged 68. David's birthplace being Horsforth Yorkshire. David had a long and distinguished Naval and Civilian career.
David Joined the Royal Navy at the Royal Navy College Manadon in 1977. His active service spanned 30 years, rising from Midshipman in 1977 to Commodore in 2007.
David's speciality was in Engineering. His Naval Engineering career covered his period at RNEC Manadon from 1977 to 1981, followed by final Naval Officer training at RNSC Greenwich in 1982.
David's first Submarine experience as a Lieutenant was in 1983 on HMS Splendid. Following service at HMS Sultan and RNEC Manadon in 1985-1987, David then served on HMS Resolution (S) from 1988.
In 1991 one of David's proudest moments was to be selected as a vital member of the build and commissioning crew of HMS Vanguard (P), spending 3 years with her. Having reached promotion to Commander in 1993, David's expertise's were required from 1994 to 2007 in Portsmouth, Bristol, Greenwich, Neptune and The Royal College of Defence Studies.
David's follow-on careers found him working with Rolls Royce. He became Head of Defence Nuclear Regulator. In September 2024 David was appointed as a special advisor to NPSRD (Nuclear Powered Submarine Regulatory Design), linked with the AUKUS programme.
