Submarine HMS Sirdar was on passage to Trincomalee in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and was on a stopover at Aden. Oliver Gaffney died in the RAF Hospital at Aden from a fractured vertebra/spinal cord injury, the result of a diving accident. The son of James William and Mary Ellen Gaffney of Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. |
