Sea Devil was the last boat of the class to be employed operationally.
Her late commissioning meant that she was still on passage to the Far East when the war ended and therefore did not see any action. In 1953, she took part in the Fleet Review to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II
In April 1954 Sea Devil deployed to the Mediterranean, and remained there for the rest of her active career. In 1955/56 Sea Devil was used around Malta for tests of the Yellow Duckling infrared linescan system for detecting the wake of submerged submarines.
The ship's brass nameplate is in the local cadet hall.

| The son of Ernest Clayton and Minnie Clayton (nee Crowther). He attended the Haugh Shaw School and, after leaving school he worked as a motor driver for Messrs. J E Jowett & Sons. He joined the Royal Navy in 1943 as trained as an Able Seaman and as a Submariner. He married Eleanor Elizabeth Garrett in Surrey in 1944. In August 1945 he was serving in Submariner HMS Seadevil in Malta. He is eported to have been drowned in Marsamxett Harbour in Malta. Roy Clayton left a wife and a six week old daughter, Yvonne Ellen Clayton |
