Trident is believed to be the most successful boat of the class. She was credited with destroying some 50,000 GRT of enemy shipping

She also managed to serve as a front line boat throughout the duration of the war. She completed 34 patrols in practically every theatre of the war.

From August 1941 until November of the same year she operated from Polyarnoe in company with H M Submarine Tigris, the first boats to do so. Whilst in this area she sank 5 ships of some 22,000 GRT as well as the submarine chaser UJ1213.

24-03-1940  Trident torpedoes and sinks the German merchant Edmund Hugo Stinnes 4 off Jylland, Denmark.
08-04-1940  HMS Trident torpedoes and sinks the German tanker Stedingen south of the Oslofjord.

On the same day she missed the cruiser Lutsow with a salvo of 10 torpedoes.
10-04-1940  HMS Trident fires two torpedoes against the German merchant Wandsbek south-south-east of the Oslofjord. Both torpedoes missed.
25-04-1940  HMS Trident fires two torpedoes against the German merchants Palime and Pelikan about 30 nautical miles south-west of Lindesnes, Norway. Both torpedoes missed.
02-05-1940  HMS Trident attacks and damages the German merchant Clare Hugo Stinnes with torpedoes and gunfire off the Bjarn fjord, Norway
23-06-1940  HMS Trident fires four torpedoes at the German oiler Dithmarschen north of Frohavet. The torpedoes missed.
08-10-1940  U-31 was attacked by the British submarine Trident. First the submarine fired 4 torpedoes, all of which missed U-31. When the British sub began to fire its gun, U-31 crash-dived. The Trident followed up with some explosive charges, but without sucess
27-12-1940  HMS Trident fires five torpedoes against a darkened ship that entered Punta Delgada, Azores. All five torpedoes missed their target.
19-08-1941  HMS Trident damages the German merchant Levante east of Havoysund, Norway.
22-08-1941  HMS Trident torpedoes and sinks the German merchant Ostpreuaen in the Kvaenangenfjord, Norway.
30-08-1941  HMS Trident torpedoes and sinks the German merchants Donau II and Bahia Laura in Lopphavet, Norway.
03-09-1941  While returning to base at Polyarnoe, Russia, HMS Trident is fired upon but missed by the German submarine U-566.
30-09-1941  HMS Trident fires three torpedoes against the German hospital ship Birka in the Breidsundet about 4 nautical miles north-west of Havaysund, Norway. All three missed.
03-11-1941  HMS Trident torpedoes and sinks the German auxiliary submarine chaser UJ 1213/Rau IV in the Porsangerfjord.
07-11-1941  HMS Trident fires three torpedoes against the German minesweeper depot ship MRS 3/Bali north of the Laksefjorden. The torpedoes missed.
23-02-1942  HMS Trident sights heavy cruiser KMS Prinz Eugen in the North Sea and fires three torpedoes; one of which hits aft, damaging Prinz Eugen's rudder and blowing away 30 feet of her stern. She is taken into Lo Fjord at Drontheim, and temporary repairs (including the fitting of two jury rudders) is completed by the beginning of May

14-04-1943  HMS Trident attacks the German auxiliary submarine chaser UJ 2202 with gunfire south-east of Capo Mele, Italy.
12-05-1943  HMS Trident unsuccesfully fires 6 torpedoes at the Italian merchant Agnani east of Cevrione, Corsica, France.
14-05-1943  HMS Trident unsuccesfully fires 4 torpedoes at the French passenger/cargo ship Cap Corse north-west of Corsica.
27-06-1943  HMS Trident sinks a sailing vessel with gunfire north of Crete.
02-07-1943  HMS Trident sinks three sailing vessels with gunfire off Rhodos, Greece.
03-07-1943  HMS Trident torpedoes and damages the Italian merchant Vesta west of Leros, Greece.
04-07-1943  HMS Trident sinks two sailing vessels with gunfire off Symi.
08-07-1943  HMS Trident damages the German patrol vessel GA 41/Tassia Christa with gunfire some 20 miles north of the Doro channel.
29-08-1943  HMS Trident missed training cruiser HIJMS Kashii off Sabang in the Strait of Malacca with a spread of eight torpedoes
02-06-1945  HMS Trident sinks a Japanese sailing vessel with demoliotion charges in the Strait of Malacca.
18-06-1945  HMS Trident sinks a Japanese landing craft with gunfire in the Strait of Malacca.
03-09-1945  Returned from her last patrol to Trincomalee, being the last boat of the East Indies Fleet to return from patrol
