Fate:	On 15th October 1940, the Italian submarine Enrico Toto (C.C. Bandino Bandini) encountered HMS Traid south west of Calabria in position 38°16'N, 17°37'E. The Submarines passed at close range on opposite courses as the Italian submarine engaged with machine-gun fire and three rounds of 4" from her deck gun, claiming two direct hits. HMS Triad fired back scoring a hit on the conning tower of Enrico Toti but this caused only slight damage and wounded two sailors. Triadâ€™s torpedo missed the Italian submarine by a few yards. Triad pulled away and dived but Enrico Toti had fired a torpedo which made a direct hit. Triad was lost with all hands.

HMS Triad torpedoes and sinks the German troop transport Ionia in the Skagerrak south of the Oslofjord, Norway.

19-04-1940

HMS Triad fires four torpedoes against the German depot ship Tsingtau in the Skagerrak south of the Oslofjord. All torpedoes missed.

15-10-1940

In October 1940 HMS Triad was patrolling the coast of Libya before proceeding to Alexandria. By 20th October the submarine was overdue. It was initially believed that Italian aircraft had bombed Triad off Calabria, but it was later discovered that she had been attacked and sunk by the Italian submarine Enrico Toti on 15th.

HMS Tally Ho, captained by Commander L.W.A. Bennington was a T-class submarine which achieved spectacular success in the Second World War. Her name was chosen for her by Winston Churchill and it proved a very suitable one for a hunting submarine. In a single commission, lasting from 15th March 1943 to 26th February 1945, she operated in the Malacca Strait.

Here, surrounded by enemy air bases and in badly charted shallow waters, so shallow that many experts considered them unsuitable for submarine operations, she took a heavy toll of enemy warships and supply vessels. The boat, her captain and her crew are all vividly portrayed in this exciting chronicle which is the fruit of wide and detailed research.
