Adoption

This plaque was presented by the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty to Alfreton Urban District to commemorate the adoption of HMS Tactician during Warship Week which ended Feb 7th 1942.

The plaque was restored by Rolls Royce apprentices, Derby in 2012.

'He was lost overboard from a skiff when returning from Arrochar, Loch Long to the Submarine which was moored to a buoy in the Loch. Although reported to be a strong swimmer he was weighed down by his clothing and boots
and was drowned.

Donald McLeod was the son of Edward and Jean Campbell McLeod. He was the husband of Isabella Jane McLeod'

28-02-1944  HMS Tactician sinks a small Japanese vessel off Penang.
27-05-1944  HMS Tactician sinks two Siamese sailing vessels with gunfire of the west coast of Siam.

Warship Week from 31 Jan 1942 to 7 Feb 1942
Adopted following the loss of their original adoption, HMS Upholder.

The Tactician plaque was restored by Rolls Royce apprentices in Derby in 2012.

The HMS Tactician ship’s bell and chess knight are now located in The Tea Rooms in Alfreton, Derbyshire.
