Appendix II: Dimensions, Displacement and Stability

The information given in this appendix applies to the first vessel of a class or group within a class as first built, based on the design and any changes made from the design during building.

For convenience the classes are divided into two sections IIA and IIB to cover:

NOTES

  1. The maximum depth of the hull is that of the pressure hull except in the case of the double-hull boats, when it is the overall depth of the outer hull.
  2. The mean draught is at the surface displacement as in NOTE (4)
  3. The freeboard in the HOLLAND to C Classes is to the top of the conning tower.
  4. The surface displacement is with all the internal and external main ballast tanks empty and carrying the normal stowage of oil fuel. This displacement will increase slightly in service with water remaining in the main tanks after blowing.
  5. Controlled free flooding water is not included in the submerged displacement, but is included in calculating the reserve buoyancy.
  6. These figures apply to L1 - 8. See Chapter 11 for variations in other boats from L9 - 33.
  7. When carrying mines.

WHEN USING FIGURES FROM THESE APPENDICES IT IS ADVISABLE TO CONSULT THE RELEVANT CLASS CHAPTER FOR CLARIFICATION
