During an exercise, H52 had a lucky escape after being hit by a surface ship while running submerged. Extensive damage was done to her bridge and conning tower and her main periscope was bent.
Possibly as a result of this damage, she was sold to a film company and disguised a a U-Boat for the movie 'The Q-Ships' and sunk of Eddystone Lighthouse by gunfire.
