She was originally named P31, renamed Ullswater in February 1943 and finally renamed Uproar in April 1943.
One of her first actions, whilst serving as P31, was to participate in the operation that led to the sinking of the Bismarck, though she did not see action directly.

| Michael Gardner was 'Officer of the Watch' on the bridge whilst on patrol in the Mediterranean. It is understood that an order was misunderstood, and the Submarine started to dive without warning. Michael Gardner was washed overboard and was lost. |

HMS Uproar torpedoes and sinks the Italian merchant Marin Sanudo about 10 nautical miles south-west of Isola di Lampione. Uproar was depth charged by the Italian torpedo boats Cigno and Procione following this attack. |
