Sea War Museum Jutland, Denmark, has found the submarine in Skagerrak in 2019. It lies at a depth of 100 meters with the bow pointing towards Tees, indicating that it was heading home, when it sank.
The wreck is heavily corroded, and in several places it is possible to look into the submarine. There are no signs of damage due to mine explosion or the like, and the depth rudders point strongly upwards. This suggest that the submarine was hit by some kind of accident, and that the commander in vain tried to sail it to the surface.
